CASA Day 2012: Heading for the Capitol

March 5, 2012 is the Indiana Child Advocate's Network's first annual CASA Day, and in Indiana Advocates for Children will be joining CASA organizations from accross the state to carry a message to the State Capital.

"Over the last 25 years, Advocates for Children has assisted over 2,200 of our region's most vulnerable children in finding safe, permanent, and loving homes," said Therese Miller, the agency's Executive Director.  "But today, there are still 200 kids in our region without a CASA volunteer.  We're going to the Capital to let our legislators know that we're not going to rest until that number comes down to zero; until every child in need of a CASA has one."

CASA volunteers speak on behalf of children who have been the victims of abuse and neglect, and CASA day at the State Capitol provides a new venue for those voices to be heard.

Supporters joining Advocates for Children will meet at the United Way building at 1531 13th St. at 9:00 AM to head to the Capital for the event, which runs from 10:00 AM until 12:00 noon.  All participants will receive a free t-shirt at registration to be worn at the event.

FYCI Events

In 2009, the Foster Youth Connection of Indiana (FYCI) was chosen as an affiliate of the National Foster Youth Action Network.  FYCI is a child welfare advocacy organization comprised of current and former foster youth.  The mission of FYCI is to improve child welfare service for current and former youth by providing a voice through policy mediation and education.  Results are achieved by advocating directly to policy-makers and legislators, and providing leadership and advocacy training to your youth.

On behalf of Child Advocates, CASA of Marion County, and Foster Youth Connection of Indiana, we will be holding its first KICKOFF 2012 events January 21, 2012 and February 4, 2012 here at the Child Advocates office 8200 Haverstick Road, Suite 160 Indianapolis, IN 46240.
