National CASA
There are 50,801 GAL/CASA volunteers nationally.
An estimated 188,620 children were served in 2006.
There are 937 GAL/CASA programs in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Child Abuse & Neglect
Nationally, 5,500,000 children were reported to Child Protective Services for child maltreatment in 2003.
In Indiana, 61,492 children were reported to Child Protective Services for child maltreatment in 2003.
More than one-third of all Indiana reports to Child Protective Services for child maltreatment were substantiated (35% of abuse reports and 32% of neglect reports).
1500 U.S. children died in 2003 due to child maltreatment, or four children each day.
Fifty-one Indiana children died of abuse in 2003. The majority of these children were three years of age or younger.
Over the last five years, more than one child per week in Indiana has died due to child maltreatment.
