Child Advocates, CASA of Marion County, and 84 other Indiana CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) programs will gather hundreds of volunteers from across the state to rally at the Indiana State House. Many in the crowd will be CASA Volunteers from the various counties across the state.
CASA Volunteers advocate on behalf of abused and neglected children whose families are involved with the child welfare system. They are dedicated community volunteers who work on behalf of our states most vulnerable population. There are over 4,700 CASA volunteers in 84 Indiana counties advocating on behalf of over 4,700 abused and neglected children. Currently, children are pouring into the system at an alarming rate and the need for volunteers to speak up for them is greater than ever.
CASA Volunteers are dedicated, trained community members who have time to visit with children and get to know them, their needs, and wishes. They bring critical information to the court that is often not otherwise provided as to what is in the best interest of the child.
Judge Stephen Galvin: “Thirty-five years of juvenile court experience has taught me this lesson: It is impossible to overstate the importance of CASA volunteers in protecting our children.”
Judges with CASA programs receive more information about the children, which assists courts in making better, more informed decisions for children and families. GAL/CASA volunteers not only make helpful and insightful recommendations to the court, they also change children’s lives.
Donna, CASA Volunteer: “The stories of what our children have been through can break your heart, but you have the opportunity to protect them and see that they find a safe, permanent and nurturing home. As a CASA volunteer, you have the chance to change a child’s story, and help bring them from chaos and despair to stability and hope.”
We hope you’ll consider joining us, as hundreds of volunteers from across the state rally on behalf of Indiana’s most vulnerable population, abused and neglected children. Our children’s voices will be heard!
