Milestone gift to child welfare agency provides long-term sustainability to support Indy-area foster children for decades to come.
INDIANAPOLIS— Child Advocates, Marion County’s CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) Program, started the new decade with a milestone gift of $5 million from Lilly Endowment Inc.—the largest gift in the nonprofit’s history. These funds will support the child welfare agency’s key initiatives to enhance sustainability, primarily through the establishment of an endowment.
“We are very grateful to Lilly Endowment for its commitment to Child Advocates and the children we serve through this transformational gift.” said Cindy Booth, CEO of Child Advocates. “Our staff, board and community partners have worked tirelessly over the last three decades to ensure the most vulnerable children in Marion County have a voice to represent their best interests in court. The establishment of an endowment will provide financial security for Child Advocates to carry out our mission for decades to come.”
In addition to the establishment of an endowment for Child Advocates, the Lilly Endowment grant will be used for volunteer recruitment and retention efforts, updates to the agency’s current office space to create more conference areas, technology enhancements to ensure stronger outcomes for local foster care children and capacity building through fundraising.
“Last year alone, Child Advocates represented nearly 7,000 children who were victims of abuse and neglect,” said Booth. “It’s vital that every single child has the best representation possible through highly trained staff advocates and CASA Volunteers.”
Since 1982, Child Advocates has represented the best interests for children in our community who have been victims of abuse and neglect. Each year, thousands of children in Marion County are in the foster care system because it is not safe for them to remain in their home. Child Advocates provides a voice for all of these children through trained CASA volunteers and Guardian ad Litem staff who advocate for each child’s best interests with the goal of a safe and permanent home.
