CHINS Cases Continue to Surge in Indianapolis
The numbers tell the story of the overwhelming amount of new cases flooding the Child Welfare Courts in Marion county. They have been increasing steadily since early 2014, correlating with the heroin epidemic in our region.
There were 498 new CHINS (child in need of services) in July. Compare that to the 178 new CHINS in July, 2013.
16 new children came in to the child welfare system on average per day last month. Comparatively, there was an average of 6 new children each day in 2013.
Child Advocates was appointed to 46 new children on Monday, August 8 alone.
Child Advocates is representing 5,407 children at this moment.
