Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. – Melody Beattie.

There are a lot of reasons why it’s important to be thankful and show gratitude for the people, abilities, and things we have in our lives. This Thanksgiving season we wanted to share some of the things we at Child Advocates are thankful for, both in our personal lives and for the children we serve!

Cindy Booth, Chief Executive Officer

“I am thankful for the hard work of our staff, board, and volunteers do every day to help children in our community have what we want for our own children: a safe family. Despite the numbers of children coming into the child welfare system doubling in recent years and other challenges, the Child Advocates team kept moving forward in 2018.”

Dotsie Longworth, CASA Volunteer
“I am thankful for adoptive parents and foster parents who are willing to care for our children!”

Shun Radford, Chief Human Resources Officer
“I’m thankful for my family. Last year on Nov 17th my nephew was diagnosed with leukemia and is still has a difficult road ahead but is doing much better and years before that my 7-year-old son passed away a week after his 8th birthday. These events that have made up what my life is today have made me realize how short life is and how we take others in our lives for granted.”

Liz Freisen, CASA Volunteer
“I am thankful for the amazing therapists I have met who work with the children we serve. They are kind, committed, and determined to support children.”

Donna Walker, Educational Liaison Director
“I continue to be thankful for the direction and care of my God, family, and friends and for the opportunity to serve children’s needs in education in this amazing organization.”

Mark Aiken, Board Treasurer
“I’m thankful for family. It was a long journey before my wife and I were able to have children. Now we have two wonderful boys, Kai (2 years) and Weston (4 months) that make us feel blessed every day.”

Felicia Brown, Chief Financial Officer
“I am thankful for everything the Lord has blessed me with, a loving and supportive family, good health and friendship. I’m thankful for what and where I am now and the ability to keep fighting for where I want to be tomorrow. ”

Carmen Cardwell, CASA Volunteer
“I am thankful for my own amazing grown children and our blended family that gave me the tools and patience needed to be a CASA. After raising 4, I can stay calm and hopeful through almost anything.”

Katy Crichlow Cummings, Chief Advancement Officer
“In 2018 I’m thankful for…Working for an organization that provides critical services for vulnerable children in our community. My family and friends. The ability to travel and explore the world. Having my boys in Kindergarten!”

Nicole Hahn, CASA Volunteer
“I am thankful I finally answered God’s call to become a CASA volunteer.”

Cindy Dean, Director of the Family Crisis Advocacy Program

“Fabulous co-workers that care about the children in our community.”

Rabia Baksh, Guardian Ad Litem

“I’m thankful for the many roles I get to have. I thankful for all the people in my life and the lessons I learn from and because of them. I’m thankful for love. I’m thankful for my spouse, my kids, family, and friends. I’m grateful for my job, my home, and my vehicle. I’m thankful for good health and our planet.”

Jim Thorne, CASA Volunteer

“I’m thankful for good health and good friends.”

Hannah Bouton, Manager of Communications and CASA Volunteer

“There are so many things that I am thankful for. Right now, I keep thinking about my experience as a CASA Volunteer. It’s not always easy, but it’s so worth it. As CASA’s we get to experience real children, real families, and real change. It’s truly an experience not like any I’ve ever had. For the two girls I’m working with right now who are only 9 and 13, I’m so thankful for you.”

All of us at Child Advocates are thankful for you, our friends, supporters, and volunteers!
